Achieve Extremely Interesting Effects!
At the request of some of our more adventurous customers, our Nikon workshop manager, Barry Edmonds, has perfected the modification of the Nikon AFS10.5mm f2.8DX Fisheye lens, originally designed to work with the Nikon DX size sensor. With the arrival of the FX sensor D3, it was suggested that removing the integral lens hood of this lens to allow an unimpeded 180degree angle of view, might look extremely interesting when used on the D3. And so it has proved! The picture on the right was taken in our showroom with a modified lens on the D3 with the auto DX-crop mode disabled. With the DX-crop mode on, the effect is a little less extreme, but still unusual.
We charge £55 +VAT to carry out the modification, or if you would prefer not to irrevocably alter your own lens, and would just like to use this effect occasionally, we have modified one of our rental 10.5mm lenses. The hire cost is £15 per day +10% insurance +VAT.
Please note - EXTREME care is needed in protecting the front element of the lens once the modification has been done, as there is no longer the integral lens hood to stop the front element touching other objects. However, the slip-on cover still remains securely in place when the lens is not in use.
