Most cameras see their firmware updated a handful of times throughout the course of their lifetime, but unless you’ve bought a model very recently it’s possible that your camera is still running an older version.
We’ve rounded up the latest firmware versions for current and recently discontinued cameras from Canon, Nikon, Sony. Fujifilm and Panasonic so you can check yours is running the right one. Just find the firmware option in your camera’s menu system and check that number against the one below for your camera.

Canon
Canon EOS-1D X Mark II
Current version: Version 1.1.2
Release date: August 2016
Released to bring many of the EOS 5D Mark IV’s new features to the flagship model, this update includes the selectable colour-tone option for the rear display and the option to append IPTC information to images, as well as a function that lets you transfer only protected images. Among other things, it also doubles the number of possible network connection settings to 40.
Canon EOS-1D X
Current version: Version 2.0.8
Release date: October 2015
This minor year-old update is said to rectify a phenomenon whereby the shutter-release button may at times activate autofocus when set to only activate metering.
Canon EOS 5DS and 5DSR
Current version: Version 1.1.0
Release date: October 2016
This update for both the EOS 5DS and EOS 5DSR adds support for Canon’s EOS W-E1 Wi-Fi adapter.

Canon EOS 5D Mark IV
Current version: Version 1.0.2
Release date: September 2016
A minor update released very shortly after the model’s announcement, this version is said to improve communication reliability when using the EOS Utility program to register and update the Digital Lens Optimizer feature.
Canon EOS 5D Mark III
Current version: Version 1.3.3
Release date: January 2015
There hasn’t been an update to the EOS 5D Mark III for a while, but the last version improves AF controllability when shooting in Live View with a wide-angle lens. It also changes a few incorrect indications within the menu system.
Nikon
Nikon D5
Current version: Version 1.10
Release date: June 2016
This update brings a wealth of changes to the initial firmware. Among other things, it lifts the three-minute restriction when capturing movies, meaning that the camera can now record for up to 29 minutes and 59 seconds at a time. The update also furnishes the Movie Shooting menu with an Electronic VR option (sadly not with 4K recording) and flicker reduction has also been added. Nikon D4s
Current version: Version 1.32
Release date: October 2016
A minor update to version 1.31, the sole purpose of this relatively recent update was to fix a handful of issues relating to Raw+JPEG images captured to write-protected memory cards. The link below also directs to version 2.015 of Nikon’s Distortion Correction Data.
Nikon D810
Current version: Version 1.1.1
Release date: April 2016
Version 1.1.1 is said to fix an issue that’s known to occur when the camera is used in conjunction with the WR-R10 wireless controller. The link below also directs to version 2.015 of Nikon’s Distortion Correction Data.
Nikon D750
Current version: Version 1.10
Release date: November 2015
This update brought with it a slew of corrections to known issues, although it also added an External Recording Control option to the camera’s HDMI functionality. With this, the user is able to stop and start recording from the camera to an external recorder that supports the Atomos Open Protocol. Sony
Sony A7R II
Current version: Version 3.30
Release date: August 2016
In addition to providing support for Sony’s radio-controlled lighting system, this version 3.30 update also provides better regulation of internal temperature to improve camera stability, and features additional operational benefits. The version 2.20 update only provides support for Sony’s radio-controlled lighting system, although it also contains a number of further benefits introduced in the previous v2.10 update. These include the option to record XAVCS footage with SDHC cards, together with an extension of 4K video recording time when using the VG-C2EM grip. Fujifilm
X-T2
Current version: Version 1.0

The X-T2 is still on its original version 1.0 firmware, so all models will be up to date.
X-Pro 2
Current version: Version 2.00
Release date: October 2016
This updates the X-Pro2 with plenty of advancements first seen inside the X-T2. Many of these concern the camera’s autofocus system, with a revised algorithm for improved accuracy and the option of selecting either a 91-point system (arranged in a 7×13 formation) or 325 points (in a 13×25 formation). Other changes include small bug fixes and changes to the viewfinder and OIS functionality, as well as compatibility with the EF-X500 flashgun.
X-T1 / X-T1 Graphite
Current version: Version 4.31
Release date: June 2016
Released earlier this year, this update for both the X-T1 and X-T1 Graphite edition is said to enhance the accuracy of manual focus adjustment when used with numerous X-series lenses. These lenses also require their firmware updated separately for this to have any effect.
Panasonic
GH4
Current version: Version 2.5
Release date: March 2016
Panasonic’s version 2.5 firmware for the GH4 brought a handful of previously seen technologies to the company’s flagship camera, such as Post Focus and 4K Photo options. The update also provides a few performance improvements and allows for burst shooting when using either the FL580L or FL360L flashguns.
