Fixation at the Frontline Club – Ukraine One Year Through The Lens

On 24 February 2023, it will have been one year since Russia invaded her ally, Ukraine. It has been a devastating year where thousands have died, and many more displaced.
Fixation is proud to host at the Frontline Club a panel of photographers and journalists to discuss images from the Russia-Ukraine conflict over the past year, their stories of frontline access, safety considerations, and how their experiences are different to covering this conflict at this year.
Alexey Furman is a Ukrainian-based photojournalist and University of Missouri alumni. He covered the Euromaidan revolution of 2013/2014, the Russian annexation of Crimea, the war in East Ukraine and the full-scale Russian invasion of 2022. For two years, Alexey has been photographing heavily injured Ukrainian soldiers returning home. This work, entitled “Life after Injury”, received the Grand Prize of the IAFOR Documentary Photography Award.
Jessica Daly is a freelance journalist and documentary filmmaker who has been working on the frontline in Ukraine for the last 7 years featured in BBC, ITV and more. Jess covers a wide range of topics from war and conflict, current affairs to factual entertainment. Jess is a Wales media awards finalist for an investigation in Beirut.
Heathcliff O’Malley is a freelance photographer based in the United Kingdom , for the last 25 years he has contributed to the Daily Telegraph , travelling worldwide. Heathcliff was in Kyiv during the initial Russian invasion and documented the population and preparations before and after the outbreak of war in Ukraine, he has returned to the country on assignment for the Telegraph to report on a number of occasions since including the liberation of Kherson.
